Cutting off main bulkhead/Anyone have an 1.5" they can spare?

Hi- I am cutting off my bulkhead and am going to try to thread a connector to it. I am not feeling to good about this, as I know how funny it can get hacking off a threaded pipe and trying to reconnect another. Anyone have any tips here? I am using a mini hacksaw as the area underneath is very small.

The reason I'm hacking this off is because the prior owner slapped some nasty, rock hard glue over the top of the plastic connection they used previously.

If this does not go well, does anyone have a 1.5" bulkhead they can sell me? (hopefully, someone within a half hour or so of Boonton 07005)

Thanks...wish me luck!

Hack away we go!

I'm pretty sure I have one among my unused plumbing collection. I'll check when I get home.
It shouldn't be a big problem to do. My only advice is to carefully examine the inside surface around the hole, where the gasket will seat. If possible, take a cloth and some white vinegar and clean it up as best you can. This will help avoid seepage around the gasket.
You can also slap some silicone sealant on the bottom of the gasket, that works too IME. Shouldn't be necessary though.

Great Jim - Thanks. Pls let me know and I would love to take a ride over for it.

I ended up determining that it would be clearly better to replace the bulkhead. I am pretty certain cutting it off it out of the question. There is just not enough room to work a saw under there.

I was going to order one from premium aquatics, but don't really want to wait on shipping due to the fact that I want to get this sump/skimmer/reactor going by next weekend

Jim - one other thing. I realized I am not certain this is a 1.5" bulkhead on my oceanic single overflow 75. I do know that the threaded pipe coming out the bottom is a 1/5" male end. The hole is certainly bigger. I will call a supplier or two over lunch to see if I can confirm what I need. It's hard to tell when the tank is up and running!
Thx

I know I'm not exactly local Bob, but I've got to have a spare of every size bulkhead and uni-seal out there. If you get in a bind and really need one, let me know and we'll figure out how to get it to you.
