dehumidifier needed?

I'm wondering if I should purchase a dehumidifier for my basement?

My tank is 135 gallons w/ 60 gallon sump and wondering if it is a good idea to pick one up?

Thanks1

dehumidifier are but they waste allot of energy and they make the room hot. I have one and occasionally use it when I see some of the pipes sweat. I'm thinking of installing a vent fan (more energy efficient) to vent the air outside. If I go this route, I have to think of how to bring in new air to the basement.

i've done the dehumidifier route even had a window AC down there. this was a 220DT with a 75g fuge and prob 75gals in a rubbermaid sump. best thing i did was open the windows and Bilco doors for natural air movement. all the Dehumidfier and AC did was run my electric bill up and they took a while to get the humidity under control

Thanks for this info! Saved me some headache and $ lol, I DO need my AC on though as the tank is in my room and having my room at a steady 78 F is not comfortable at all.

Still waiting to put it in once the nights aren't as cold as they are now.

Thanks everyone for the input though!

A small window fan blowing in makes a huge difference. Dropped my tank temp a few degrees and lowered the humidity alot.

Brandon....I open at least 2 windows in my basement every day....keeps the humidity down...and when I have to close the windows I turn on the dehumidifier and it keeps it low. Not a bad investment in my eyes....especially when your pipes start dripping like mine did lol.

I ended up making a screen door from 2X4's for my Bilco doors. and clothes smelling like saltwater isnt too nice either.

i use a dehumidifier - but i only have a 40 gallon sump in my basement. Now that I think abou tit I'll have to get the kill-a-watt on that thing to see the damage it's doing. Good point!
