DIY Kati/Ani DI unit – Problem

So what am I doing wrong???

First I have to mention that I regenerate DI resin…..very easy to do. To make the process even easier, I decided to make my own Kati/Ani DI unit by using a two chamber RO unit. I pulled off all the RO stuff and was left with the two canisters. I purchased the special canisters for DI resin and put the anionic portion in one and the cationic in the other. No matter how long I ran this, I could not get TDS down to zero. And here’s the weird part….my incoming TDS to the mixed chamber DI unit was typically 2. With this Kati Ani, the outgoing was 4. Figure that out. Well here is what the setup looks like….and yes, I’m using the “IN” side for water coming from the RO unit, and the “OUT” as the “pure” water. I’ve also tried switching anionic first, cationic second, with no change.

Anyway, I’ve been tinkering with this whenever I had a little free time or was regenerating more resin. I recently regenerated resin and tried again…..same thing….couldn’t get TDS down. Just to make sure it wasn’t a crappy regeneration job, I took these two canisters and mixed them back together and put this in my single mixed bed reactor……zero TDS. So it’s not the resin.

I just can’t figure this out…..it should work!
