I gave it a shot today in my ongoing issues with bryopsis to make the tank as clean as i can, i haven't touched the rocks since it was set up 8-10 months ago, the amount of junk that came out was amazing, lol. skimmer went nuts for a bit. Anyone not do it and notice a difference after starting to do it?
Depends on your water volume. I have a couple of pumps buried inside the rock work. They come on every 20 minutes on top of the hour during the day. That keeps anything from accumulating in the aquascape.
I blow the rocks off once a week using an over sized hose and put it over my return line in tank and blow off everything in my tank, Rocks, Glass , and stir up the sand not reached with normal movement in tank..
I usually do it weekly with a baster or occasionally aim one of the power heads at the rocks. I have a lot of rock. My tank is about 11 months. I did this and stirred up my sand just before doing my water change, and an hour or so before changing my power filter pads. Since I got my goby, I don't stir the sand. Also, my power heads are set to do either clockwise or counter clockwise water rotation. After feeding, I will often have them all blast at the same time to return uneaten food to the water column.
