Do you QT?

After browsing many forums on this subject, I'm curious as to how many reefers actually practice what they preach with respect to using a QT before adding new fish, corals, inverts to their DT. ;D

I'm especially curious if those of you who run Nano tanks (max 35gal) run a QT before adding livestock, and if you do what are the dimensions of your QT and what do you have in it.

I have not QT before. However after listening to some speakers at MACNA I'm working on setting up a small QT tank. So the answer is no then yes

No, but I do dip my corals before adding them to the display tank.

I also buy inexpensive, healthy looking fish too.

yes. However I am pretty lax with it - that is, all I am doing is making sure the fish is capable of eating and appears fine.

However I wouldn't QT if I bought my fish from Dr. Jim (sponsor who pre-QTs all fish).

Is there a list of known LFS that pre-Qt their livestock? That would be extremely useful.

I like to go to dr jim for my fish because he 100% treats his fish- now corals i doubt any store will treat there coral because i have gotten red bugs from stores that say they have qted and only thing to do is qt your self.

i have a QT tank (12 gals), used 2 - 3 times in the very beginning, then got lazy and skipped all afterward...

recently i got red bugs in my tank, and treated 4 times, so far, they "seems" all gone. (knock on wood!)

from now on, i will try to buy corals with friend together, and ask him to help to treat-QT first, then move to my tank later...

hes a vendor for us- he lives up north by hillsborough if i recall right- he is a vet that works at the amwell bird hospital and is a very smart guy- he treats all his fish for basically everything and will only sell you a fish that is healthy and eating.

I QT my fish for months before putting them in my main tank. (I like to spread around the aggression by adding a few new fish at a time.) I'm not as conscientious with corals...

I feel that unless you are going to TREAT the animals in QT there's no sense in doing it. To QT just to sit and watch proves NOTHING other than that the fish is either resistant or not currently sypmtomatic. If you don't treat you could still be moving Ich into your system.

With corals I can't see that a dip, no matter how strong, could suffice as a treatment. Eggs, life cycle, different strains will all react differently to the treatments. If I have to treat my tank 4x to get rid of something how will I cure a new coral with a 20m dip? I just don't see how that would do anything more than give one a false sense of security.
