drilling a tank

has any one drilled a tank before?
does any one have the drill attachment that is a circle with dimands on it? i know they are very expensive and was wondering if anyone would lend me one and if they had any pointers?

I never drilled a tank, but I have drilled glass hundreds of time as I operated a glass company out of my garage for some time.

You can get a bit at CRL (www.crlaurence.com)

Here is a link to the exact page:

Or something similar off ebay

First you make a ring on the glass with plumbers putty about 1/2 high and 5 inches in diameter, then you fill it with water. Next you fire up the drill and ease into the glass on one edge of the bit (picture the drill at a 45 degree angle). Once you get a grove in the glass you can then begin to straighten the drill to a vertical position. When you are about 1/2 way through the glass you stop. Clean everything thoroughly, flip the glass over and do the same thing on the other side. You must drill in the exact same place on the other side so the 2 holes meet as close to perfect as possible.

Practice on scrap glass a few times.....its actually not that hard.

I hope this helps. Unfortunatly I sold all my equipment.
