My beautiful Mimic Tang. Fish was swimming around perfectly this morning, just got home and it was stuck to the Vortech, side all torn up, eye pulled. CRAP. anyone else every experience something like this?
He was a good size, about 3 to 4 inches. I doubt it was the vortech myself was just curious if others experienced this. I wasn't home so I have no idea what happened. 2PM check by wife saw him swimming like a normal fish, 730PM sucked onto vortech like a fish to a grill pan. POOPERS
Sorry to hear this Jeff. I have heard of this happening with MP60's, but for a fish that size I dont think it was an MP40 that killed it. Not sure what type you have.
I want to say the vortech probably didnt kill him. He probably died and got pulled into it. I have a small hippo tang and he picks at the mp40 with no issues.
Yeah i don't think the vortech caught him. Fish was only in my tank for a week and the night before ate really well and was very active in the morning. Just very frustrated as i lost this one and a month ago had a great Powder Blue blow his swim bladder.... fun times with fish.
Hate to ask but did you QT the fish prior to introduction or just add him in?
If you QT'd before and then this happened it would make me think something in your tank is killing the fish.
If you did not QT then the possibilities are many. For example, it was never net caught and had bad internal organ damage prior to purchase and was on its way out long before you added it to your tank. Did you buy it from the LFS/internet? if lfs - did you know how long they had it in their tanks? Anyways lots of possibilities where from point of capture to introduction to your tank there could have been something amiss.
