Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
This is sort of a trick question. In other words, you can find pumps that are more energy efficient, but you usually pay a price for that in other areas. This makes pump selection an area that takes some time and study.
Here is how to do it.
First, you can forget about any pump that is too small or too large for your application. You obviously can't use them, no matter how energy efficient they are.
Next eliminate pumps that will not work for your application. If you need a pressure rated pump, you can eliminate all the "glorified power head" pumps.
(Optional step) Eliminate pumps that are not from know manufacturers. This is too critical an area to risk on bargain pumps.
Now make this calculation - Divide the amount of water moved by current the pump draws. You may need to go to the manufacturers web site, and look this number up.
Once you do the calculation on your pump, you 'll know what the relative efficiency is. Select the pump with the best efficency.
Sequence $
Pan World $$
Tunze Master Series $$$
Red Dragon $$$$
MKT $$$$
Tunze, RD & MKT use the fewest watts but their intial cost is much higher than the Sequence & Pan Worlds. The payback on electrical savings vs. intial cost is something like 10 years in NJ. Don't buy a pressure rated pump if you don't need it since they use more electricity.
