Few questions about Dwarf Octopus

OK i seen someone posted a link to this site so i thought I'd check it out and then i found this Dwarf Octopus that do good in nano tanks so i just thought I'd ask if anyone knew how small of a nano they would be OK in like 10g? I know i heard they shouldn't be in tanks smaller then 75g because if they ink there is more water volume. Just thought I'd ask because i like Octopus and I'd like one but don't wanna have a 125g Octopus only tank... http://sealifeflorida.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=34&products_id=202

While I would LOVE an octopus, I don't really feel like I have the experience that it would take to house, contain and care for one. That is a topic you should research VERY well prior to venturing into. You should probably find an octo care forum that you could ask your specific questions of and read on for some time before deciding if an octo is right for you. They are very tricky animals to keep (and to keep HAPPY).

Good luck with your research.

There is a cephelopod forum on RC:

If your set on keeping one, find a mentor and follow their advice to the tee.
There is a Octo Keeping site, just like RC but I can't remember the name. If I come up with it I'll post.
As Phyl said, read, read, read. There is really only one spices of Octo that will live in captivity for any length of time. And do not ever consider a Blue Ring Octo. It could/will kill you. Good Luck

alright i just though I'd give it a shot here before i posted on the RC thanks for the info guys.lol Blue Ring Octopus i almost bought one awhile back the one pet plus i go to had a pair of them but he wouldn't sell them to me :D
anyways 6 months isn't bad since we might be moving out of state around 08 and would have to sell it. well if i can find one at a good price around here i might buy it but in the mean while i'm going to read, read, rub my eyes and read some more :p
Thanks again
Nick

Strange, but true, Exotic Reef Imports had blue ring octopus on their availability lists for MONTHS at around this time last year. And, they were only $5-8 wholesale. Crazy crazy.

hmm well i've been reading and the smallest one that lives in tanks needs about a 30g so i'll see maybe i'll get a 55g and get one that will live longer also PM'd Roy on the RC he studys octopus so hopefully he can point me in the right area ;D
Any info will help.

Thanks,
Nick

Blue rings are very very POISONOUS and eat constantly I had one years back and it lasted about 2 years in a half full 56 column tank (keep it from crawling out) very neet looking animal but 1 mistake and bite and it's all over for you.Not sure if you still have to I had to get a permit from the state just like you do for certain reptiles.I would think very long and hard before I bought a blue ring.

I think it varies as a state by state thing when it comes to the blue ring. Marine Fish and Reef, Marietta, GA, had one for a month or two at the most. It was only the size of a quarter, and they were keeping it in a Critter Cage. *shiver* Until it laid eggs and died, I kept a good bit of distance from their reef tanks.

To be honest, yeah, the blue ring is really pretty, but, granted the space, I would much rather a mimic octopus. Much cooler in the long haul. They will mimic ANYTHING to blend in, even compressing their bodies and altering their swimming to look like fish. We got one in at the pet shop as a special order for someone. As it was acclimating, I got curious and dropped a NJ drivers license into the bucket. It crawled over my license and started turning yellow/pink to blend it. It even made a dark patch to try to mimic the picture. Of course, I put it in the tank, along with some snails to eat, and it tried to mimic the snails. ;D

yep I'd also like to put my hand in the tank with out dying...well it sounds like my old 10g would be good if i get a dwarf but i probably wont get one at less for awhile since they aren't easy and I'd wanna make sure it'd be happy :D but maybe down the road once i do some more study on the type i want.
Thanks,
Nick
