filter socks

just recieved yesterday from ebay . cheap filter socks . I washed them in washer warm water only no soap. Did this 2x . When i install sock the skimmer goes squirley. skimmer fills up in no time . pulled sock off almost a hour ago and skimmer is quieting down now. What to do to prevent this.

Maybe bleach them???

It's pretty common for a skimmer to go crazy when adding the sock. At least it was for me, and I've read about it quite often. Might have no choice but to turn it down for a bit then bring it back up.

I have had success washing brand new socks with distilled vinegar in the washing machine. Seems to help.

that sounds good also . how much vinegar?

It's normal the first couple hours with brand new socks. Once they get a good coating in them they will be fine. And then when I cleaned mine I did it with hot water with a little bleach, a second rinse and then air dry. Be sure to run your machine one time in a hot rinse cycle to make sure you remove any old detergent from your previous load.

I just installed 1 filter sock yesterday and believe it or not, my skimmer has done the exact opposite. Wasn't even reaching the brim. Had to tune it up so it could overflow and its still the same way today.

skimmer was ok till i added washed socks .Then skimmer filled up fast .Soaked sock in sump overnight . put sock on @ 4 pm today there is about 5/8 inch of skim ..
