fish aggression issues

Hello all,

Last night i introduced a flame angel into my tank which has a Tomini Tang and 2 Ocellaris clownfish. The Tang has been harassing/fighting with the flame angel so much so that it is in hiding. I haven't seen the flame in 4 hours. I'm hoping its not dead. Will this subside? Tomini's aren't know for their aggression from what i have read. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Harry

Try feeding the tang more. When I added two tangs to my 125 I kept 2 pieces of PVC wrapped w/Nori always hanging in the tank. The sailfin couldn't decide wether to eat or chase so it reduced the aggresion considerably.

I tried the feeding thing. The tang hasn't touched the nori. It just keeps circling where I think the Angel is hiding.

thanks

I think it all depends on how much they fight. I have had small fights and they get over it but if they are really going at it then I would not think it is going to work out.

I have had a lot of sucess with putting the new fish in a specimen container hanging in the tank so they can get the fighting out of their system without actually hurting eachother. Try to pull one or the other and put them in a container for a while. Just make sure and drill large enough holes in it to get circulated water in the cup! (I learned that one the hard way)

forget the aggression issues. The flame completely destroyed my green star polyps. there are basically none left. Will they grow back and also will it stop at some point.

thanks
Harry

I think your flame angel may not make it if the tang contiues to attack it. :'(

Sometimes rearranging LR before adding new fish can decrease aggression.

Also size of tank may be a factor with tangs, how big is tank??

they are actually getting along. they were swimming within 3 inches of each other with no issues. I now have to watch and see if there are anymore polyp eating episodes

Lol. I think you severely undersestimate how tough of a coral star polyps can be. So long as there is still some healthy polyps or mat left, they'll grow back. It might take a little while, but it'll grow back. And, no, if they do grow back, unless either you, a more aggressive coral, your flame angel, or lack of space interveins, they will just keep on growing, providing conditions are right for them. I think there's still a couple of people on RC with tanks FILLED with gsp. Looks like rolling hills covered in grass.
