Sadly my yellow watchman gobby died today. I had it about 3 years. It Didn’t have a mark or a torn fin. Wouldn’t come out to eat for a couple days. The pistol shrimp stayed by its side until the end. My other fish have no signs of problems. Not sure what went wrong. I have added a cleaner shrimp and a few snails and hermits in the past couple weeks. I hope I didn’t introduce any disease.

Sometimes they just die and you'll never know. I just lost two flasher wrasse, no noticeable signs just died. All other fish (including other wrasse) are just fine...
Dave, it could very well have been old age.
Marc, Dynos can be eradicated with a total blackout, frequent water changes, and lowering nutrient levels. Annoying, but doable.
Nikki, I tried several blackouts and no luck. Also, read it was from low nutrients stated to not perform water changes as it feeds the dinos. I just started running carbon again as I read it can help. Will see what happens.
Yea. I’m in the same boat. I have low phosphates as well (not really detectable on my salifert test kit). Have about 5 nitrate, witch is usually considered ok(API test kit). I have problems with stringy slime on my rock, that cleanup crews don’t eat. I was doing a lot of water changes. It wasn’t working. I cut back on water changes now. No worse, no better. I might try a blackout next.
When I had Dino’s. I had to basically blackout the tank for 5 days. I mean sheets and everything for pitch darkness.
I ran carbon and elevated mag. It worked in 5 days
Thanks Edwin, I did a 3 day blackout with a dark sheet but no carbon. May consider longer and carbon if no improvement.
Did you feed fish / coral during the blackout?
Yea. It could have been. It was full grown. Hard to say how long they live. I’m sure they’ll be someone claiming that they kept one for 20 years+, but I guess 3 years is a decent run for a small fish species.
I got my shrimp 2 new yellow gobbies. The previous goby was almost 3”. These are 3/4”. The shrimp is pretty big, but paired up with on of the little gobies overnight. The other one found a dugout without a shrimp. My hope are that the 2 juvenile fish will eventually pair. If I start to see too much aggression, I’ll have to take one out. For now, 1 chases the other way, but then leaves it alone.
Update on my 2 new yellow gobies. The goby that moved in with the pistol shrimp, has grown quite a bit. The other goby is looking heathly, and grew a little less. The slightly larger goby has become less aggressive toward the other goby, so it looks like they can coincide. They have been hanging out within 8” or so of one another, and there are no territorial movements. Maybe they will eventually pair. I’m not sure if I have a male and female, or if these gobies can change from male to female.
