fish room setup

Here are a few of the initial setup picks of the fish room. Many activities to be completed when time permits. Hopefully the pics come through on the first shot. :)

Cheers.

It's a thing of beauty! Great job. I'm really looking forward to following along on this one.

Hope all is well. Wanted to make an update to this post before the holidays while time permitted before things get chaotic. Was able to clean up some of the photos by removing the heavy construction equipment from the basement.

Pleased to mention that all plumbing work has been completed. This consists of the manifold, plumbing in the supply / return lines to the 215 gallon reef ready Oceanic starphire and the two 40 gallon breeders seen in the pictures. We plan on moving our current 65 gallon reef minus some hair algae due to much neglect into this system soon. This will bring our system around the 450 gallon mark when you include the sump.

We completed plumbing in the skimmer tonight. Not very happy with the primer job as it left a mess… oh well, as long as it does not leak. :)

As of now the equipment we have includes the following. Much of it still needs to be setup.

Setup:
Sequence 4300 SW (Circulation)

MRC MR-3 Recirculating Skimmer
Pan World 150PS (recirculating)
Pan World 200PS (feed)

To be completed:
MRC Dual Calcium Reactor w/spray bar & PW 20 HD pump
10 LB CO2 Cylinder

Phosphate Reactor
Media Chamber
Kalk (On order)

Aquacontroller 3Pro, 2 - DC4HD, 1 - DC8  Also looking into pulling data from AC without using Aquanotes. I would import in MS SQL or even Access and publish stats to intranet page using VB scripting. Just need to figure out the “pull” as this may be difficult without access to list of AC commands.

Decide on rock! Been emailing Marco Rock for best pricing and shipping costs on approx 450 of the big stuff. Looks like their supply until January is limited. That's ok for the wait to get what we want.

I plan on going into more details as the system setup progresses and will update accordingly.

Happy Holidays!

It's really coming along nicely. Very neat and clean . . . I'm jealous (nice manifold btw ;)) The only thing I don't see is the tangled mess of wires and extension cords!

Give him time. That will come! :)

Been some time since the last update. The tank setup was going well. We had planned on an overall capacity of approv 450 gallons including the sump. I primarly work from home and wanted to seperate the fish tanks / equipment from the home office area and computer equipment. The original intention was to divide the overall basement into two main sections. The first being the tank/fish area, the second area was designed to be home office with a divided utility room. I really need to conduct business in a dedicated area for two reasons. It will free up one of the spare bedrooms and will also help me to leave work @ work.... If you can understand the concept working from home.

We started by completing the dividing basement wall and then began to frame out for the office and utility room. At this point the "bug" set in to finish off the entire basement. The plan was revised to include recreation/play room, in wall 215 gallon tank, fish room allowing for additional room for equipment, sick tank, frag, etc. We continued the plan for office & utility room. The other change that snuck up on us is the full bathroom. Progress is coming along. Rough inspections should be done this or early next week. We had to complete some semi major electrical work as we did not have capacity on the service coming into the home. Gotta love builders and the corners they cut.

On a side note, the original Oceanic Ultimate 215 Reef Ready tank I purchased has turned out to be defective. Oceanic has stepped up to the plate and will provide me with a new tank at no charge. Seems that the seams are coming apart... bad pun. IMO they take care of their customers and provide stellar customer service.

Lot's of work, lots of fun. Enjoy the pics and I will update when possible. Special thanks to Carlo for assisting with the tank replacement. He is a real nice guy. More on the new tank later as details develop.

The display tank (in the wall) is a 215 gallon Oceanic. (72x24x29) Total system volume s/b around 400 gallons.
