Fragging coral

Howdy,

I'm getting ready to frag my first corals and I'm wondering if anyone has experience in cutting zoanthid polyps underwater ?

Reason I ask is some of my frags are glued down and some have spread from their plug. I wanna just get one or two heads to begin propagating in my frag tank.

Any tips or tricks are appreciated

I would recommend taking them out of the tank and fragging in a small container of water if you want to keep them submerged. That way if it wants to release any toxins, it won't be releasing into your tank. While they're in the container, you and swoosh of any mucous, and give them a dip to aid healing.

But I now realize that's not even what you're asking about.. sounds like you don't want to or cannot remove the rock that they spread to and want to know if it's still okay to frag inside the tank?

Make sure you use a sharp blade, clean cuts instead of sawing motions, glasses or goggles if you have them to prevent eye contact/splatters, gloves if you have any open wounds on your hands.. safety first. A good pair of bone cutters should break through the rock if you get a good grip. Sorry this response was all over the place.

This response was perfect. Lots of information which is all I need. I should be able to remove some plugs to frag however 2/3 have grown into the rock so I'll have to frag some in the tank
