Freshwater planted

Anyone have any experience in freshwater planted tanks. Or know of a reputable forum? Thinking about setting up a low maintenance fw planted and just want to read up first.

fw planted tanks are more maintenance than reef tanks.

Would have to disagree here. I had a 55 gal freshwater tank for 3 years with angel fish. The only maintinence was water top off and trimming plants. I never recall checking water parameters and let me tell you the plants flourished! There is a special mineral rich gravel to start with, as the waste fills the voids and becomes mulm your plants will really start to grow. No need to bother with CO2 or fertilizers....that's what the fish are for.

My kid was into freshwater planted for a brief time and, if I remember correctly, he had fertilizer sticks he used to put into the substrate, and ran some sort of CO2 bubbler.

When I had freshwater, the plants got nothing but fish poop and whatever light.

Mine too hardly do anything. The super high tech Japanese style ones are a lot of work.

I was thinking of just getting a evolve tank or some kind of AIO that i can get cheap and go low tech.

Hey Justin, I am in the (very long) process of setting up a 120g planted tank. The kind of tank you are talking about isn't that hard at all if you choose the right plants and equipment. I am on a great local forum for planted tanks. It's a lot like this club but not as busy as it is here. Having said that, there are plenty of great knowledgeable people there that will be able to help you with pretty much anything. IF you have any questions I would be more than glad to help out with what I can. http://www.njagc.net/wp/
