fuge inhabitants

just got my 50g fuge up and running. it only has chatoe and some live rock. what else can i put in there aside from crabs and snails.
the GF wants a puffer but i don't think its feasible...is it?
is there any other non reef safe fish that would be ok to put in there. keeping in mind that i am also trying to have a large amount of pods for my manderin.

Any of the SW puffers small enough to live in a 50g will also eat pods, my marine green spotted (lives in a 30g cube for now) eats them anytime he seems one in his tank... in fact he spends his days/nights searching so I'd say those are out. I'm assuming a dwarf angel might be ok and are pretty.

Any fish you put in the fuge will totally defeat the purpose have setting it up in the first place. A refugium is a "refuge" or safe place for your pods and such to populate and reproduce. If you introduce a predator then they will not be able to do so and you will basically have another display tank instead.

I wouldn't put any fish in your fuge. It should be a safe place for all the pods to multiply and grow in order to feed your main tank

Also defeats the purpose because the macro is supposed to polish off your water taking out little things that your skimmer misses. Putting a fish in there will mess your water that is going to your return and back to your tank.

I only have snails and hermit crabs in my fuge. Recently, put 2 small cleaner shrimp in because I am afraid the inhabitants of the main tank will attack them. I also added 4 baby mollies so they wouldn't get eaten. Yes, I have 2 mollies in my main tank to help control algae. Once grwon out some these will move to the main tank, will probably thin out the mollies though.

well it wouldn't defeat the fuges' purpose if said fish was small and did not eat pods or macro algae. and there is no sand in the fuge so deitrus would easily be blow out of the fuge and into a filter sock( only run when trying to clean up fuge a bit).
i know it was a long shot but no completely impossible.
and what is the macro suposed to be catching that the skimmer misses? i thought macro used nutrients in the water to grow hence removing them
