Fuji Leather-Fraging Pics.

Had to do it. I used a method shown on garfs site, Impaling the frags on small plastic points on reef plugs. the one change that I made was to make small plastic disks with a paper punch and use them as a cap to hold the frag in place till it takes hold on its own. Out of 1 med yellow Fuji Leather I was able to make 28 Frags.

Seemed like a good idea at the time! Hold off trying it, taking losses overnight. I read that this was a difficult one to propagate, Ill post up again in a few days when the frags settle down. Lost at least a dozen so far.

I'm finding when fragging my leathers, they seem to do better if I cut them one day, drop them in my refugium for like a week, letting the cut heal before mounting them on a base. They don't seem as stressed and perk up quickly.

I was watching this thread to see if you were going to have good success. From my experience and from what I've read, Fuji leathers don't like being fraged.

I concider the Fuji a loss! Did not work. At the same time I fraged a toadstool and some cabbage leather and have a 100% survival rate.

Fiji Yellow leathers are very sensitive to bacterial infections. If you decide to try it again don't push the frags down to the plug. Let them sit above the plug to allow good circulation around the entire frag.

Perhaps Not bacterial, these guys melted overnight, never saw that happen so fast. in retropect, less trauma, larger frags, do the leave them alone and let them heal,

And interesting, I researched this for awhile and could not find a single reference to this leather being sussesfully fraged or any cultivated frags for sale!

Just as a follow up, I do have 6 frags that look like they might make it. Healing up and have polyp extention. Perhaps this is possible to propagate after all. Allready planing my next attempt.
