Not sure if this a stupid question, but does a glass top affect the light getting to corals

YES.
Initially when clean, then more and more as you either get condensation of algae build up.
I had a center Euro Brace and would use a magnetic cleaner like you do the sides of the tank as it was not removeable.
I would NOT want a center braced tank again if I could help it. Was a pain to clean.
At least glass tops you can take off weekly and clean and put back in place.
There are videos on this topics on YouTube, BUT yes they alter light effectiveness, but help reduce evaporation and jumpers.
If you inisit on a top cover I would suggest a net to prevent jumpers and try and stay away from the glass, unless there are other reasons it is needed like kids at a doctors office treating it like a please touch museum or a wishing well and tossing things into the tank.

Crisp1, how big is your tank? Do you currently have glass tops?

I would use egg rate or a mesh depending on tank type. As said above allows
Light penetration keeps the tank cool and allows for gas exchange.

I'm currently using a glass cover on just one side of my tank. I have so much evaporation now with the heat on. The tank is in a room right next to the kitchen so easy to grab it off and give it a rinse when needed. As soon as spring comes and the heat gets turned off it will come back off.

The lid I’m using. Rimless tanks make it Tuff also did the half glass on my older 20 long good luck w the 30

no issues with the glass cover on my display. Every few months I wipe the salt off it. My DT is in a fish room and I need a ladder to get up there. If your tank is at a regular height and in your house, you’ll notice it more often and it will be cleaned way more often I think.
