I would recommend Camden, my fiancee went to law school there and we walked over a few times. They have excellent reef tanks and the rest of the aquarium is very fun. Just don't go for the local Camden tour ;)

def agree camden is okay for fam day trip. i dun really expect to see impressionable reef setup at any of the large aquariums but they certainly have interesting fish. that's worth it even if you don't see cool reef setup. i think the best reef setups are in ppls living rooms on this forum.

Riverhead ny has a reef set up that will make everyone here drool. It's 2 hours away from Edison and has a lot of outlet stores nearby too. It's called Atlantis marine world I think. I have pics of the reefs at home I can post later tonight

Joe,

How fast do you drive? RIverhead is 2 hours from Edison? I lived at the Queens/LI border for years and would estimate Riverhead at 2 hours from there. You're talking around exit 70 on the LIE near Tangiers Outlets?

Thanx for all the responses... Ill definitely look into Camden, I always hear nice things about it... I never heard of the riverhead one but ill see if they have a website.... The one with the best reef tanks will help me make a decision.

+1 to Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead. I went there last summer and their reef tank is really amazing. 20,000 gallons, and all the corals are real!

From my old house in Edison it is exactly 120 miles to the coast guard station in Hampton Bays. Riverhead is the next town over. You won't be disappointed taking the ride there

Just checked out the Atlantis site... Ive decided thats probably our best bet... Thanx again for the advice guys I didnt even know these place existed..

It's a little expensive, but it's open 365. I'm there every other Sunday working behind the scenes.
I'm going to post some behind the scene pictures at the end of march if I remember my camera.

Atlantis will take longer to get to than you have wanted to travel, however it is well worth the trip. We are very fortunate to live close enough to this aquarium. The 20,000 gallon reef tank is arguably one of the best in the world. Then there's the anemone tank, the shark tank, penguins, etc. Consider spending the night if the trip is too long for you. You won't regret the experience. Your family may just have to drag you away from the tank as it is just all too incredible. I let my family walk around for a while and come back for me much later.

Alright Mark you pretty much sold me right there... You should work in advertising... Im pretty sure I could get there in like an hour and 45 minutes... I really wanna see this 20,000 gallon reef tank... My son loves to stare at my 120 gallon i cant wait to see the look of awe on his face when he looks up at 20,000 gallons of bliss

Camden was great. I haven't been in a long time but we went today and had a blast.. Its amazing to see how big the little fish in the store can really get

nice pics sandee...i'm surprised you took any of ny's...not much there if you ask me! :p I walked by jenkinsons' only because the sticker-shock compared to the size of the place.

(hijack warning) Noticed you don't have New England's on your list...you should check that place out in Boston. I liked it a lot when I visited looong ago.

Sorry for the delay, but here are a few of Atlantis in Riverhead.
