The NJRC Loaner Sea Hare is once again available for borrowing by a member. There is no cost. It is lent with the understanding that you'll return it to me or to jceli728 (in Lake Hopatcong) once it has cleaned up your tank. Pick-up is in Livingston (07039).

Regret to advise the Sea Hare is no longer with us. It was rather large, and apparently got wedged behind a rock and couldn't back out.

Learned a few things while it was here...
  • you can hand feen them
  • they'll eat shredded Sea Lettuce
  • they'll eat cut up chaeto
  • they'll eat hair algae taken from a koi pond

R.I.P.

how much does a sea hare go for?? I was going to pick up a lettuce nudibranch, but i was told that it was a temporary animal that will only last a couple weeks at most. I know that they have sea hares at Absolutely fish and once it is done with my hair algae i woudn't mind restarting the "NJRC Sea Hare Loaner Program".

Don't get the lettuce nudibranch they don't eat hair algae. They only eat a specific type of macro algae and as onefish2fish said they can very easily get chopped up in a powerhead.

You can go with a sea hare, but if you only have a little bit than I would not get one. They can clean out a massive outbreak very quickly and then starve to death. When I was doing some research on the electric blue hermits which is part of the invert group buy juice44 is doing I read on several sites they eat hair algae. I am a bit skeptical of this claim as most sites claim all hermits eat hair algae which they really don't.

Well....I have a bunch of the small blue legged ones and they wont touch it. I have a scarlet that doesnt touch it either. I just cut my lught time down and feeding to minimum to hopefully cut it back. If it gets worse, I will be in the market for a sea hare.
