When testing for phosphate and alk. I use one tube for untreated water and the other I treat with the reagent. Can I just use the same clear untreated water for awhile or do I really need to fill the tube each time?

Fill it each time. Water conditions and clarity can change from day to day. The C1 is used to set the baseline reading to compare the C2 reading with the reagent.

Gotcha. Thanks. I'm adjusting my alk and testing a fee times a say to establish en amount to dose daily. Can I use the same vial 1 sample for at least the whole day?

If you're dosing during the day then I'd recommend taking a fresh C1 sample each time you do a test. Otherwise, your tests won't be accurate.

I don't mean to hijack your thread but I just got one for Christmas and ran into something which puzzled me a bit. I tested my tank and got a .05 then I tested normal tap water and got .00 I'm stumbled anyone have any advice? I used two completely different vials and everything

Yes I am have all kinds of bad readings. I can do 5 test in about 30min. and all reading are all over the place. I do believe Hanna has some bad batch reagents. But they will tell you they do not. Over on Reef Central there are threads about this.

So do you think I should retest my DT? I have a new tank only a few months old and I was thinking about getting some frags soon but I don't want them dying on me

do you have another kit lying around? test it with that and compare. I've never had an issue with my PHOS checker or ALK checker. Calcium on the other hand is a little buggy but I have a salifert kit incase I'm not comfortable with the reading or to just compare. Also when I first started with the checkers it was type of a learning curve and I had to get use to the steps. give it a couple of test, you should get a hang of it.

The only other test I have is an API, I got a Red Sea but it's only calcium alk and one other thing I'll just test it a few times maybe it was a fluke. Also, where did you order other Reagant packets it only came with like 5 or 6 packets

Your LFS should carry them, they range from $9-$12 bucks. You can also get them at bulk reef supply or marine depot.

I didn't like the fact that only a few reagents came with my checker also. BRS has them or you can go on Amazon. I would call Captivating first as they seem to stock far less than they used to. It is a difficult business to keep above water!
However I have Alk, Calcium and Phos checkers and like all three.

Theres a guy on ebay i buy reagent from. he lives somewhere in nj so if i buy today its at my door tomorrow with no shipping charge. his id is Onewayoutsales I've been dealing with him for almost a year no issues.
