Hello. New to the Forum.

Hello Everybody,

Just popped in here real fast to say hello to all and to let you all know a little bit about me. I am Jim. Live in NJ (south). I was refered by a guy named NanoGuy (I am constantly in the aquarium center where he works). I have been in this hobby (or poorhouse... whichever way you want to put it) for about 14 or 15 years. I have never claimed to be a "know-it-all" about the hobby. In fact, I have often understated my knowlege as saying "I probably should know more about the stuff that I do", given the amout of time into it. Over the past 15 years I think it is very possible that I put one of Dominic's kids through college, with all the money I've spent. I mainly shop at Aquarium Center in Blackwood and just, last week, started going to In Living Color in Cherry Hill / Marlton (on route 70E)

The main reason I am here is.... well, there are a few reasons I'm here but manily just to have somebody to share some chit-chat about the hobby with and for information from "well seasoned" aquarists and reefers (coral reefers, that is, so no replies from the Potheads please....... just kidding!). I am currently in the "planning phase" of some mediocre to major changes to my tank so, I hope you all don't mind seeing several posts from me in the next several weeks or longer.

Here is some info on my current tank:

Tank & Equipment:
54 Gallon Corner Bow Front Corner Tank
No Substrate
90 +/- Fiji Live Rock
Current SunPod 250 watt Metal Halide
Prizm Deluxe HOB Protein Skimmer
Homemade wet/dry with NO bio balls. Simply used as a sump only.
Koralia Powerhead Pump1 (600gph)
Koralia Powerhead Pump2 (400gph)

Livestock:
Pink Tip Anemone (1)
Flame Scallop (2)
Coral Beauty
Sebae Clown
Green Chromis (4)
Purple Stripe Pseudochromis (2)
Hawaiian Feather Duster (2)

Corals:
Actinodis Mushroom (1)
Zoa (1)

Cleanup Crew:
Blue Leg Hermit Crab (about 20-25)
Conehead Snail (1)
Turbo Snail (1)
Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (1)

Supplements:
Kent Marine Coral-Vite = 1 capful every Sunday
Kent Marine Strontium and Molybdenum = 1 capful every Sunday and Thursday
Kent Marine Liquid Calcium = 1 capful every 2 or 3 days (to keep Calcium level at about 450ppm)

Feeding:
Live Brine = every other day
Phyto Plankton = 1 capful every other day tank treat
Phyto Plankton = 1 capful every other day target fed to Feather Dusters, Corals, and Scallops
Frozen Krill = 1 cube target fed to Anamone (leftovers are put into live brine cup and fed to fish)

And that's about it. Remember, I am always open to suggestions and even sometimes criticism. However, I do not do well with "Flaming". So, if you have a comment to make pleae make it just that. A comment or a suggestion but, please don't flame.

Hope to talk with you all real soon and maybe even run into a few of you at the LFS.

Oh btw..... here's some pix

Hi Jim. Welcome to NJRC's forums. We're glad you were pointed in our direction. I think you'll find plenty of reefers (of the non-pothead variety and maybe a few others) here always up for BS'ing about anything hobby related. I hear ya on the "flaming" thing. Fortunately, that doesn't happen too often around here. Everyone is generally pretty civil with one another.

Welcome again and keep the posts coming!

Hey Jim,
Welcome to NJRC. I'm sure you'll enjoy the people here. I doubt anyone here will flame you. What part of South Jersey are you located?

Hey Phil,

The big white critter is the "Keeper of the Reef". His name is Merfy and his job is to watch the tank during the day when I'm working to make sure everybody is getting along and all is well.

As for the others who asked I am in Bellmawr. Not Belmar, but Bellmawr. I am about 5 min. from the Walt Whitman bridge and about 25 (or so) miles from the Delaware Memorial. Uhhhhh, Exit 3 on the NJTP, about 55 miles from Atlantic City, and OH!, about 10 min. for the Camden Waterfront Aquarium.(which I have not yet been to)

I have already put a link to my tank photos. They are in my original post in this thread but, here it is again http://www.yoursaftnet.com/jimtank.htm

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Hope to meet alot of you sooner or later.

Jim (The "Keeper of the Merfy")
