High TDS in Tap Water?

Hey everyone, has anyone else noticed unusually high TDS from their tap water lately? I recently measured mine, and it’s coming in at around 800 ppm. I’ve also noticed my DI resin is exhausting much faster than usual. The output from my RO membrane has jumped to 36–50 ppm, which is way higher than my typical 8–15 ppm.

My membrane and pre-filters are only a few months old, so I don’t think it’s an issue with the filtration system itself. I know winter runoff can cause an increase in minerals, but 800 ppm from the tap seems extreme. Is anyone else experiencing similar issues, or could there be something else causing this?

Damn that's high. Mine went to 200 apx.

Wow, 800 is high....you need to chew that water! Unfortunately the EPA does NOT have a TDS standard, only a recommendation of being under 500. That said, I'm looking at you rejection numbers and they seem high. What RO unit do you have? A quality 50-100 gpd membrane should have a 98% or better rejection, and worst case for you is at about 94%.

As far as your water quality, call your water company (or might be your health department) and ask them if anything is going on. I know there have been a number of water main breaks in a couple towns around me.

I’m running a 7-stage RODI system with a 75 GPD Dow Filmtec membrane (purchased from BRS) and a RO Buddie booster pump. Normally, my TDS after the membrane is around 8 ppm, but I’ve been noticing some odd behavior lately. I only make about 20 gallons at a time since that’s the largest container I can fit in my apartment.

I ordered new prefilters and just replaced the membrane and prefilters back in October, so everything is fairly new. I’ve always felt like I’ve had strange issues with Rahway water ever since moving to the area.

I should check mine. It's probably high too since we are near each other.

in the past couple of days, ive been testing the tap around me and its been coming down on TDS, i assume something was going on when i tested it at around 800. either way, ive ordered new prefilters to see if it helps.

But the 20 is what comes out of my rodi which is what I use in my ATO
