How to remove a fish

I can't get my bicolor dottyback out of the tank no matter what I try. I have tried using nets, and i made a fish trap as well and I just can't seem to get anywhere close to catching it. It is too aggressive and is nipping the tails of other fish, how can I get it out?

I've had very good luck with a simple bottle trap. I'm not sure if I showed you my trap, but the secret is to put a hole in the middle of the bottle and squirt some juicy food into the bottle. I then use the turkey baster to occasionally squirt water into the hole. This creates a "snow globe" effect, with the food whirling around. I've been able to catch fish within 10 minutes or so using this method. When I get home, I'll post a picture (later tonight.)

Take two 2 litre plastic bottles, cut the top portion off of one, the bottom portion off the other. Insert the top portion you removed into the bottom of the one you removed the bottom from, and attach, i.e. glue, zip tie, etc. You can do this with a single bottle, but it's easier to remove the trapped fish if you do it with two.

PS Make sure you remove the cap from the top portion you are inserting into the bottom.

have you put the nest in the tank for a while yet? otherway to catch most blenny is get a PVC pipe about 3/4" or 1/2" (depend on the size of your fish). drill small hole on the top of the pipe with a clear fishing string. cap the other end of the pipe with a plastic wrap (food wrap stuff) by a rubber band. place it in your tank where the bicolor lenny like to hang out and wait. in a few day, he will go into the pvc pipe hole. don't take him out yet. wait until he make it his home and quickly get him out by pulling the string.

Here’s my bottle trap.

Cut the top off a soda bottle.
Cut the opening so that your fish will fit through the hole
Flip the top piece over and push it into the low part of the bottle.
Using a paper hole punch, punch holes around the diameter through both the top and bottom parts….three or four holes are enough.
I used twist ties in these holes to hold this thing together.
One last thing, cut a hole in the body of the bottle so that your turkey baster end will fit in that hole.

an octopus would also work. But then you'd be left with a full octopus and no fish.... sorry i don't have a trap myself...otherwise I'd bring it over!

Just seeing how you made out getting the bicolor dotty out. I have used the bottle method as well with good results.

I finally got him out today. I had to order size 24 hooks and then within 30 seconds of trying he bit the hook and is now in the sump. No stress process. So who wants my bicolor dottyback?
