I dropped a coral....

so I took couple of rocks out to get it back. I ended up taking out so many rocks that I had to re-aquascape my whole tank. I'm so disapointed in the way it came out. I'm going to have to fix it eventually.

I'm not going to go back and fix it now because my fish were bugging out and I don't want to stress them anymore then they already are.

It's making me think I should just buy a whole new tank and start over.

I would take a picture of how it came out by I don't have my camera with me right now. I'll post before and after shots soon.

Isn't that always the way? Grabbing at any reason to go bigger. ;)

I think anyone that's been in reef keeping for any length of time has torn their tank just about down and rebuilt the aquascapeing and/or the filtration system.

To do good aquascapeing, you do need to have some sort of plan. No matter how big the tank is, some planning is needed. Other wise you end up with just a pile of rocks, and little else.

Of course, a larger tank always helps!

Good luck!

Mike,

Something similar happened to me a couple of weeks ago, except I had a near catastrophe when one of my jumbo snails started an avalanche. It was extreme poor planning on my behalf because had I done things properly nothing would have fallen to begin with. :-[

In any case, by the time I was done reinforcing the rock, the entire right side looked different. I wanted to cry because I didn't like the "new" look at all. I finally went out and got some more rock and redid that side again, rearranging quite a few of my corals. Now I love the new look.

Of course I'm still dreaming about a bigger tank, too, but for now I'm happy with the outcome, and grateful I didn't lose anything. :)

I just don't like messing around with my rock when I have my fish in there going crazy. I hate that they are completely in shock and don't know what's happening to them. They are fine when I put my hands in to place a coral or whatever but when I start to move more than 50% of the rock they went nuts.

It really does look like just a pile of rocks. I wish I could just take my fish out for a day and do it that way but there's no chance i'm catching any of them.

I really think we should go from one members home to another and assist each other with aquascaping ;D I moved a rock or two yesterday and now the entire tank looks like crap :( and I don't know how to make it look better without tearing everything out ::)

Great idea, Francis! We can start at our house. We're about to tear apart a nicely settled in display to put our Marco rock in. It would have been done Sunday, but we wanted a bit more time to recover should things take longer than expected.

I'm in the same boat for different reasons.

My plate and bubble coral have grown to the point that they can fight it out. Since the bubble stopped inflating to the max, I did a little tweaking to give it some more room.

You know the rest of the story! ;)

Hope you get it back how you like it. My family thought I was nuts when I spent over a week designing a structure with my marco rock and then using zipties to secure it (3 large structures that sit together to appear as one piece)... I'm so glad I did it, I only have 2 rocks in there that aren't secured it's so nice to know when I knock into something everything won't come crashing down. Of course my urchin loves to knock down the 2 unsecured rocks so those might even get attached.

My aquapod is just balanced and is forever needing to be taken apart to trim back corals, I cringe whenever I need to do it, I'm so afraid I'll squish my firefish or a goby.

The exact same thing just happened to me... only worse. Now, the tank its self is listing to the left slightly. So, I, too, will be hunting soon for a bigger tank and say farewell to my ten hex. Maybe a 30 hex this time....

this happened to me on more than one occasion, the last time it was my old 46 bowfront about 3 years ago, i ended up taking down the tank and selling it on ebay and parting out the livestock. my last computer hard drive fried and i lost my pictures of it. i miss that tank but i kept my eheim wet dry filter, this thing is the best for anyone who has a tank without liverock and wants bio filtration
