I hate used car salesmen!

excuse the rant, but I'm a bit angry and need to vent

Monday-Morning: Go to dealership, test drive car I like, vehicle listed for $19,900 online. Salesmen says that they're going to certify the vehicle and the price may go up, but he'd honor the $19,900

Monday-Evening: Bring my dad back to dealership to look at car, says it looks good. Salesmen again advises that they may certify it and it will go up in price, but would honor the $19,900 online price. I said when can we talk numbers since the salesmen had to go. Salesmen was off on Tuesday, so I go in today.

Wednesday-Afternoon: Test drive car again to make sure I like it. Sit down and discuss numbers, salesmen advises now the price is $21,900 because they certified. Tell the salesmen of what he said on Monday, he says let me go talk to the manager. Talks to I guess the manager and comes back and say it is $21,900. I said again you said on Monday it may go up, but you'd honor the internet price. Further it is still online for $19,900. He says that is the non-certified price. He says let me go talk to manager again. Comes back with the manager, manager says the car is $21,900 because it is certified now. I tell manager what the salesmen stated on Monday. Manager asks salesmen if he said this. Salesmen says well not in those exact words, but yeah. Manager says it is $21,900. I say will you do it for the $19,900 as the salesmen said. Manager says no $19,900 will be non-certified. I said then thank you for your time and walked out.

My lease is not up until May, but I was hoping that it would be an easy smooth process and this guy f---ed it up.

<end rant>

If anyone knows anyone selling a 2009 Mercedes E350 or ML350 let me know, maybe they won't be jerks like the above people.

What gets me is if the guy would've honored his word I literally would have bought the car today. I'm fine with the financing and have more than 15% down... but no they want to be sticklers and liars.

I need to get a new car by March so I have time, but just irks me.

I have had 2 truck fall through just about the same way. The post it online for one price and when you come to look at it its now $2500 more because they had to do some "minor" work to it.

Buying a car can be a pita but if you understand the games they play it makes it a little easier but maybe not more bearable. Use some of the online tools to do your homework on pricing first especially if you have a particular vehicle in mind. Go in armed with those numbers and don't hesitate to lay them out there for the salesman to see. Get preappeoved for you financing from your bank or whatever lender will give you a good deal. It won't hurt to let the dealer give you a financing quote but do that after you agree on a purchase price. Same goes for negotiating your trade in if you have one. Otherwise they will play the numbers game with the financing and trade in value to get to your money. Once they see that you have your homework done it will help to cut back on the BS. Don't be afraid to politely say thanks but no thanks if you don't like the deal.

Other options you might consider is a car buying service that some lending institutions offer or some place like car sense. I used one when I bought my current truck. I took the best quote that I got and went to a few local dealers to see if they could match it and offered to buy on the spot. None of then could so I went with the original offer knowing I got a fair price. We just bought a SUV through Car Sense. They are a no haggle dealer. I might have been able to save a few hundred by Shopping around but it was nice to be able to save all the running around.

I appreciate the tips, I will keep that in mind on my next adventure of car shopping.

I want to open a dealership and call it HassleFree where you can buy a car and not deal with the BS of dealers.

I'm not even 100% set on euro, my budget is up to $20k max and I prefer something with a bit more luxury such as heated/leather seats and spacious I'm 300 lbs and 5'11. Definitely open to suggestions.

You might want to consider the sales cycle too, most sales people are driven by monthly and quarterly quota's, and as such are more inclined to be more flexible at the end of the month/quarter to make their number.

If you want to check out Mercedes Benz in BW, lmk. My brother just bought a 2012 e350 a few weeks ago. My family/cousins have purchased about 11 cars from the same rep. He will take good care of you.

@Brando @Empire - I'm looking for a new car as well with many of the same features as Brando. I'm in the same boat with a fairly long commute 30mins 45-1hour with Traffic on a daily basis. So I want something comfortable as I am a big guy as well. I have the same budget and 50% down. LMK your contact and when they would be available for me to stop in. Looking to purchase on or before March 15th. (b/c of other commitments.)

Brando Carguru's seem to have a lot of C300's in stock with the new body style and low miles? Any reason your not looking at those? the 09 350 look like the old body style but I'm thinking your in it for the Turbocharged 350?

I've been looking at the Cadillac CTS-V as well.

You're actually better off going the first week of the month because the dealerships are usually dead after the end of the month rush.

A line a I always use when a salesman is giving me a lot BS:

"Look I like the car, I want to buy the car, but I don't have to buy the car. You on the other hand you have to sell the car to pay your bills. So do you want to sell the car or not?"

The look on their faces is priceless.

Good luck.

Oh and by the way the no bargaining, hassle free buying dealership was called Saturn. They're out of business now. LOL

Stay clear of carmax...60 Minutes did a piece on them and they are really bad...

Key thing is research and don't rush.

I haven't bought a used car for many years. My minivan is 14 years and the sedan is 12 years old. I am the buy and drive it to the ground type of guy.

If I want a luxury car I will lease one. Buying a 5 year old Mercedes you will end up with expensive repairs. A luxury car is not necessarily a reliable car. So it's actually cheaper to lease a Luxury car. The market is designed that way. Just me 2 cents.

Good line. Going to use this next time. :D

Went yesterday and met with the sales manager where my dad works for Mercedes. Anyway told him my budget and what car I'm looking for and he is going to be on the prowl. Fingers crossed!

So some good news thus far. My cousin works at dodge, jeep, chrysler in Little Falls and texted me Wednesday to say they got in a Jeep I might like. Long story short I went Wednesday and test drove it, loved it. I went today and finalized all the paperwork.

I am now a proud owner of a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/ 40,000 miles and it is fully loaded (heated seats, leather seats, nav/dvd/hdd/sirius, remote starter). I also purchased the extended mopar warranty on it for $100 over dealer cost.

Now to get some running boards for it and enjoy it.
