I need red bugs to prove a point

I treated my tank with levamisole for flatworms and I believe It also killed the red bugs I had!
All my acros started coloring up and the polyp extension is unvelibable.

I am looking for someone that can give me a sample of red bugs close to chatham ,nj (07928).

I want to do an actual test and see if it possible to kill red bugs with levamisole, just to make sure it is not a coincidence

Red flatworms i have em in my 20 reef. where do u get Levamisole its reef safe?i want 2 get a blue velvet slug but cant find one.

During a Google search i read that flatworm exit has been used at 30x recommended dose to kill certain flat worms. Alternatives like what your doing is certainly worth the follow up.

what size tank u have.did u do a water change if so when and how much?anything else i should know r do if i go this way thanks

I have a total of 170 and dosed for 190 gallons. I turned skimmer and filters off for 6 hours. Turned everything back on and did a 10% water change

Well, It's not every day you find some one looking to get red bugs! :D

Trade SPS often enough and you'll get em agian they seem to be becoming very common. It would be great if this program proves out as it certainly makes for a better QT type dip then the Interceptor.

putting it al toghether

About 9 months ago I bought this thick white acro at the LFS. I was surprised to find something that it was that white and alive and I liked it. 4 months went by and it wouldnt color up at all. I really had a white acro!.
About 3 months ago my purple tip started looking very pale. The more attention I paid to the tank the more I noticed all color was dissapearing.
I decided to take a picture of the white acro with my macro lens, and then It all came to life. It was full of red bugs. Once I knew waht to look for you could actually see them without the magnifying camera lens!.

At the same time I noticed that my tank has flat worms. I did some research and found a place that sold levamisole. I got it and dosed the tank 4 times.
The flat worms were nowere to be found but neither were the red bugs! Tank is finally pest free and everything was startig to color up.

I go back to the LFS and start looking on their tanks. Theye corals are full of red bugs and flatworms!!!!

It makes a difference now that I now what to look for when buyng a new piece!

Gonzapa, Have you mentioned to the LFS that they have this problem? If so, what was their response? Just curious

i still have some red bug, do you want to treat it in my tank? (~400g water volume)
if you have some levamisole life, i can buy them off you, or i can order it online.
thx

I did mention it and the response was quite surprising. "Why should we care... If you want a pest free tank set up a quarentene tank"

I did try to explain to them how bad of a business model it is to be spreading pest arround to customers tanks but they could not care less :(

I only have enough left to treat 15 gallons. If you have a little piece infected I can try to dose my nano, just to make sure the levamisole is what killed the bugs

Update
I Went back to the LFS and noticed some frags full of Red bugs. I took It home and made and used the levamisole that I had already mixed from when I dosed the tank.
Within 30 minutes the many red bugs could be seen in the bottom of the container and the amount on the coral were significantly less.

Given the fact that I had already mixed the levamisole over a month ago and that the Red Bugs clearly were being affected, I now think that it is confirmed that Levamisole powder can treat Red bugs with no visible consequences to the reef inhabitants.

My original treatment included 4 doses to treat the flat worms.

The first one I dosed it for 30 min before reconnecting skimmer and carbon due to the amount of flat worms in the system.
On week 2 I dosed the levamisole and left it in the system for 2 hours before reconnecting skimmer and adding carbon
On week 3 the dose was left for 4 hours.
And on week 4 I left it in there for 8 hours ( I forgot I had dosed).

I would like to hear if anything else has a similar experience as this treatment is a much better option than dosing interceptor.
