ID THIS Angel for me!

I bought this without a tag on it.
From the shop owners note; its a Emperor angel. However i dont think so, I am leaning towards a blue.
Anyways i bought it ; looked amazing. However i need to know to be sure.

Someone who knows a little about these angels, please ID this one for me.

Thx.

Hi Maroon...Do you still have this fish???

I know it is not a juvenile BlueFace nor is it a Juvy Emperor (you're right about that). I'm working on identifying it.

Dom

yes, i still have the fish. not a blueface?

i had come to the conclusion it is a blueface after researching changing angels online.

but, this is my first angel, so im not exactly sure. If you need anymore pictures to help you out, let me know, but i think the pictures accurately represent him.

I thought I saw this pattern somewhere a long time ago...Check out the markings on the relativrly rare juvenile Chrysurus Angel, a member of the Pomacanthus family (go to several sites on Google)....Also, having seen that reference provided by mfisher2112, I can't rule out the possibilty of it being a juvy Blue Face.

Dom

Nice fish Carlo, thanks... maroon's angel looks a lot like it though the Chrysurus seems to have a deeper blue to its body?

Maroon's angel also has yellow pectoral fins and a yellow rim around the outside of the fish to the back.

Very true Phyl... a look at a number of pix of Juvy Chrysuruses over several sites, including Carlo's reference, show yellow markings along the outer rim and some fins. I'm guessing that maroon's fish and Carlo's fish are at different ages/sizes
or stages of development.

How did the Grandfather in the movie "Moonstruck" put it at the end...."I'm Confused" ;D

It's a tough fish to identify correctly. Angels in particular change so much from the juvenile stage that they can be especially hard.

I got this fish from a fellow reefer, Billy98 a few months back.

If you look at the pictures of Maroon's angel, you can see the beginnings of the yellow markings on the face just in front of the eyes. Also, the yellow pectoral, yellow edging on the dorsal and tail as well tend to make me swing more towards the juvy blue/yellow face. Also, look at the shape of the dorsal where it meets the tail versus the shape on Carlo's image. Maroon's curves in toward the spine more, where if you look at Carlo's, the dorsal tends to flow straigh down into the tail. The face seems shaped slightly different as well.

Only time will tell, I suppose. :)

yea, everywheres bringing up that its a blueface, i would be psyched if it was a chrysus(sp) angel. beautiful fish nonetheless. i guess, time will only be the real judge ::)
