Had a bad water change day Wednesday.
Long story...
Was doing a minor treatment for flatworms with flatworm exit , then...ran out of water as I was draining good water down the drain with my python. Whoops.
Panicked...So dumped RODI from my tanks reserve into the sump, probably colder than tank water, turned on and was still just a little short.
Didn't think the temp difference through on that move...
Had to turn the separate frag tank pump off and on to keep the water flowing through both systems. Burnt out the frag return pump. Figures....
Checked salinity of system and was 1.024 usually 1.025.
So I pulled a pitcher of water added a little salt stirred it up and added in a few times over the next hour or so.
But had to do something about the dead pump. Went to tie a line into the main red sea ball valve manifold off the main return pump and when I turned the ball valve. Orange brown nastiness shot into my sump and was immediately rolled into both tanks.
Wasn't able to use that ball valve for the return so grabbed another utility pump and got that squared.
Thursday things were just a little off. A few corals showing a little stress.
Chalice and season greetings.
Parameters looked good for me.
78°, 1.025, 8.3 alk, calcium 460, magnesium a little low 1280.
Phosphates were 0.90, which is what I have been working to lower.
Nitrates at 23. Also working on them but things looked great recently.
I did notice I lost alot of stomatella snails! Maybe their deaths released toxins so added carbon which I don't usually run.
So Friday and Saturday things just looked a lot worse.
Removed carbon.
Only thing still different is that pump.
Should I just swap that out and do a little water change every day. 10 gallons or so?
I am gearing compete crash.
Just now I pulled the Hollywood stunner as it was oozing.
Oh...I also picked up some new corals from Maximus Reef on Saturday including SPS /Montis and such.
So they have been in there 2 days and look great still!
So it seems to be more the trauma from Wednesday that impacted them.
Any words of wisdom is appreciated
