International Year of the Reef 2008

Madame Prez and Officers,

I am willing to organize or help to organize an event that would go along with this. We should join in with MR or other reef clubs and try to hold one big event.

here is a link to the site and what they do

LMK, i think its a great thing

here is a link http://www.iyor.org/

If the club decides to go ahead with something like this I would be glad to help out as well.

I think it's alot more complicated with FragSwap 08 and the attempt to host MACNA. But anything is possible.

If anything this would def let the MACNA people know where not just into the aquarium part of this hobby but also willing to do conservation.

This campaign for IYOR is about educating people about the problem that faces our hobby because of our hobby.

We spend alot of time talking about how we save the worlds ocean one living room at a time.

Lets do something about it.

It would be cool to do somehting like this:

Organise a coral reef competition (or photo competition) that encourages participation of local school students and the general public.

We could invite the top winners to come and accept their awards at the swap in October. I would say that we should invite all of the high schools to participate and that we would invite a celebrity to award the prize (500$ to the winner, for example).

This will take a coordinator, creating a flier, deciding on the prizes and getting them to all of the high schools. We'd need all of the submissions by say August 31 so that we had enough time to do the judging (maybe at the September meeting).

We def have to cut down on the number of schools. Also a clean up day down the shore and the least we could do for now is put a link to their website up on our site.

Better late then never on this reply

Does anyone know any coral reefers that are famous.
