Is this a good price?

I have someone offering to sell me their 215G non-drilled tank for $350.00. He had purchased it about 2 months ago used, but found something bigger. It was apparently used as an in wall setup, has no scratches, but one small chip on the outside.

I am new to all this so I was wondering for your opinions. I have not yet went to see it, but I plan on doing that next week.

Also, is there any ways to fix a chip in the glass??

The price sounds good, but if it's got a chip in the glass, it may be best to avoid it. I don't know of any way to actually repair a chip, but if it's on the outside, and small, you might be able to filled in.

Personally, I wouldn't get a chipped tank...there are enough things that can go wrong...why help it along?

You can tell who ever it is that because the tank is chipped that you don't want to spend $350. Maybe he'll go to a price that you feel comfortable risking with a chipped tank. But even still, down the road no matter how cheap the tank was if it busts open or cracks you will have a bigger mess on your hands than losing a few bucks.

I don't think I would get it.

215g of water on my floor is not a chance I'd personally be willing to take. Especially for a non-RR tank.

I had a 135 oceanic with a chip in it that someone found on the street and gave it to me. I used it for a couple of years until I got a RR tank. never had a problem. I think it depend on where and how big the chip is.

This is true. The chip could end up being no big deal at all.

My first 'big tank' I bought used. The second one I bought new....2 months later.

Oh sure, it held water when I went to look at it. And there weren't even any chips or anything. But once the weight got in there, and the stress on the seams...

she leaked. And that one we had in the wall of our living room in Charleston. Luckily, (sorta) everything is on a slab there because it's the 'low country' but there was still the matter of alot of salt water all over the berber carpets...

I really thought I was going to need a divorce attorney that day ;)

"raises hand" I have 2 chips in my tank (90gal reef) one on each side..had it set up for 5yrs..the chips arent deep, and not even half way thru the glass, kinda like having a boat with a small hole,if the water comes or goes,be ready to swim..lol gd luck if you do decide to get it.

In the end you will have to be the judge whether you want to buy the tank or not. You didn't mention where the chip is (front, back, sides?), whether it's on the upper, middle, lower side, perhaps on one of the edges? How deep is it?

I bought a used tank myself, fully aware that there were risks. Mine turned out to be quite scratched, which was totally unnoticable when I chose it. However, besides the scratches the tank holds water, no leaks, and therefore I have zero regrets. :)

If this is your first attempt at a reef, I would probably go for it, especially if you're sure that the tank won't leak. The price is good, IMHO. ;)

will you be putting this in your wall as well? if not, then you would be buying a stand and/or canopy for this tank. if those are new, then the couple hundred dollars you are saving on a used tank isnt worth your investment imo. for a couple hundred more you could have a reef ready tank that is new. a little while back chris, user name cmsurfr22 was selling his MINT practically brand new 215 aga reef ready tank, mission series stand, and mission series canopy for $900 , it is the dark maple color. it is beautiful and i wish i could get it, but since i live with my parents and our house is for sale i cant. im not sure if it's still available. hes not too active so send him an email. you can get it from vieing his member profile.

either way good luck

To my knowledge, Chris (cmsurfr22) hasn't sold his tank. PM him for details, if you're interested.
