I have a large coral banded and it will go into a defensive posture (big claws outstretched) if a fish swims into his area. However, I’ve also seen him acting like a cleaner shrimp and come up to a fish and, using his smaller pincers, clean that fish.
I agree with the last post I had one for over2 years in a tank with small gobys and never had an issue. Other shrimp is another question I saw him go after cleaner shrimp, catch and eat one. As far as pellets go mine would eat anything I put into the tank.
I've had one from many years, but I couldn't add any small fish. I assume it was him. The new fish would be out and fine for a few days, then they would disappear. Some times, I'd see them in the tiny cave openings. I believe it was my CBS, but never saw it eat any fish. The larger fish did get a torn fin every once and a while. Now that the shrimp has died, I haven't seam a torn fin. Just keep an eye on it. I believe more people have good experience with them, but there is the occational one.
I agree it seems to be hit or miss with them.In my experience I never had one that was nice.It always nipped fins and would be a nuiseance to others in the tank..
