I think the Newspapers are fear mongering with their reference to Sandy, but I'm still getting prepared.

Just got back from filling up three gas cans for the generator. Not going to be caught again without gas. Also plan on running the extension cords from the generator to the house this morning so that's done.


Are you doing anything in preparation?

stocking up on beer, ellio's pizza and fries. probably some popcorn, some extra vodka for the fish if they get jittery. I think i have enough gas to last 2 days.

I'll wait until there is more info on where its going to hit before I start doing any preparations. Plenty of time to get gas and other supplies.

Will wait until Friday afternoon to see, but I did the maintenance on my generator in the beginning of September so I am ready to go if the power does crap out again.

Going food shopping after work. I need to anyway so it's a win win. Also looking into generators but I'm realizing I don't know enough about them. My head is spinning not sure how big to get

Realize the bigger you go, the more gas you consume.


I ran my entire tank (lights, heaters, pumps, everything), a refrigerator/freezer, television, home boiler and a couple lights with this $299 generator from Sam's......a 4550 peak/3650 running watt generator. Ran for over 7 days straight when Sandy hit. Best 300 bucks I've ever spent!

That's good to know Paul thank you. So you think a 5500 watt would be ok? Would be running fridge, tanks, a few house lights and maybe tv.

i have a 6500 running watt generator and it runs my entire house, tank, fridge, extra freezer in the garage, well pump, all of it accept for the A/C, water heater and oven. I have a gas range so good there.

Apparently it already hit me, my power is out. apparently even if you just talk about a storm around me it goes out.

I am in pa, but still ready. Had to take out generator on Tuesday. PECO was doing maintenance and upgrades so power was out from 8-2. Figured no reason to put it away until after storm. But after getting everything prepped and ready I really wish I would have got a whole house generator and not have to go through all the nonsense

power came back after an hour or so last night, went out again this morning at 9:30, running on a generator now, they said i wouldn't have power back till later tonight, and i'm pretty sure the hurricane is still a couple miles away from us at this point, i think someone sneezed near a power line...

In preparation of the storm, I'm looking in my phone's contact list for Paul's address in case I need a generator and some spare gas. Those extension cords look like they might come in handy too. Dance


Seriously though, most of the power lines in my area are underground so thankfully we rarely have any issues even with these big super storms. I know I probably jinxed myself just now, but the past couple I've had nothing more than a light flicker situation to deal with and feel pretty lucky.

I do have battery backup for my MP40's though and I have access to a generator at my work if it does get bad for me.
