It's the truth! I just did it in my tank. It was COVERED in Bryopsis. I upped my Magnesium to 1500 and 4 days later my tank was almost completely clear of it. It was pretty amazing to see...I wish I would have taken some before and after photo's. :
I'm not sure that's really too high, is it? Salt water I think is 1250 - 1350. Good question though. Maybe it doesn't need to constantly be that high, just during the outbreaks?
There seems to be no ill effects on corals or fish. You only need to bump it up (not all at once, but in 100 steps) long enough to kill the outbreak. After that you can let it come back down naturally.
I spread it out over 3 days. Which was really still too fast, but I wanted results and I wanted them NOW! If you knew my tank situation, you would understand. I can say that my zoo's didn't like it at all. My yellow scroll coral isn't happy either. My toadstool leather turned a wicked flourescent green/yellow color, it looks great! The anemones (RBTA & Carpet) didn't like it. Everything else seems virtually unaffected. Even though I rushed it, it worked. My Mg was very low to begin with, which is why I needed, oh...about 6 gallons to bring it up ;D
