I remember the story Paul B told about going to the car dealership for some repairs. well here is my little story.
Wife's car we pay for the maintenance package - free oil change and tire rotation - was about $10 more per car payment.
The cargo hatch clips of the SUV broke off so asked the dealer to replace. they told me need to be ordered and must pay for them and installation in advance.
Clips were $35 and installation $36; also said the plastic trim they go in may be broke so no guarantees and would need to replace the trim. I decided to forego the clips as it seemed expensive.
So few days later look on Amazon and find what I believe was needed with 2 week delivery, so I ordered them.
The clips arrive Saturday evening and looked like to correct ones. Sunday morning I go out to the car and install them; took me 60 seconds.
The clips were $8 for two and a minute to install and dealer wanted $71 before tax; freaking rip off.

it's always going to be cheaper for you to be the part supplier and the mechanic and take on the liability . At 36 labor they are paying their tech about 6 min. to do the job (fair) . And they have to buy legit parts from their part supplier. Not cheap knockoffs. Seems more fair than a ripoff to be honest.

If you're able to as much work as you can , especially if you enjoy it.

I work in the industry. Everything is super expensive since covid. Trust me, none of us are getting rich LOL.

If you happen to have a Toyota, I can hook you up haha.

Thanks but my wife has a 2022 Rogue Sport and I have a 2017 Mustang.
So yeah, repairs kill me as I am not mechanically inclined :(

do all you can yourself

THIS, most car maintenance can be done yourself and everything else can be done with a trusted mechanic.

Most of my car knowledge came from being a broke high school kid who wanted to go fast lol

If possible ask around your group of friends if they recommend a mechanic that they trust. most dealerships in regards to repairs are overpriced and even maintenance. once your car is out of its general warranty, i would go to my local trusted mechanic.

Nice of you to offer. Depending on where you are I might take you up on this. I just bought an oem Toyota cv axle boot kit. My wife’s car has a torn outer boot. I’ll be spending my Good Friday rebooting it. $75 for the kit didn’t seem bad but $80 for 4 spark plugs seems crazy.
