Kalk reactor

I started thinking of getting a kalk reactor and after seeing the prices I am deciding to go on the cheap and build it.

Here is the materials I have procured so far.
Cell cast acrylic pasta canister (1.99)
8 nylon crews with nuts (6.24)
2 Jaco connectors (5.98)
A 12 volt computer fan (5.00)
An old piece of acrylic to make the top(free)
An old dead hardrive magnet for creating the magnetic stirer (free)
An old 12 volt power supply. (free)

If my calculation are right that means I can build my Magnetic stirer kalk reactor for under 20 dollars

That is pretty impressive to build it that cheap. Eventually, show us some pictures and tell us how well it really functions.

Please have a look at my kalk reactor thread for some ideas. Not to rain on your parade, but I don't think you can make your own magnetic stirrer out of a magnet and a computer fan, but do give it a try. Maybe pop for a real stirbar on ebay, they are coated with nylon so there's no contact with the solution. Part of the problem is that when the stirrer starts with the settled kalk lying on it, it has to have some torque to overcome the resistance.

If you want to do this very inexpensively, I would recommend using a small powerhead instead of a magnetic stirrer. If I make another version, I will do it out of a clear bucket (HD) a strong powerhead, barb fittings (HD) and a gamma plastics screw-off bucket lid (www.gammaplastics.com) I think that would be the best bang-for-buck imaginable.

I built the body yesterday I will take pictures when I get home. I did get the magnetic stirer to work with the computer fan but because the bar I was using was not balanced it wouldnt rotate propely, so I ordered one from ebay. It will add 5 bucks to the build but if it makes a huge difference it will be worth it
