Kovalchuk

We are very lucky to have such a hockey based city/hockey town. Its almost a destination team for players in the league...also that superstart scout in western europe helps :D

Considering the contract he just signed in Russia, I am not surprised he left.

Go to deadspin.com they have the numbers and other commentary.

GOOD LORD! $15M to $20M/year! I know Russia has had a economic resurgence in the last decade but i had no idea they could support that kind of stuff!

And he could come back in 2018 if he wanted too! wow...

Also remember the money he will be making over there will not be taxed.

Presonally i think it }#*^s!!! i was looking foward to this year with Marty and Crawford in net covi up front. Then Clarkson going to Toronto this year is not looking so hot. Guys have been bouncing to russia to up the bucks for a while and like kschweer said All tax free.
The only thing I will say is sometimes drastic change can work out to be a good thing. You never know who will show up to fill that spot im sure it will be someone great.

There were some really dumb moves and trades made in the time between the 12 and 13 season, im willing to bet you will see some "bargains" pop up before the season starts...should make for a really interesting trade season.

How about Yzerman down there in Tampa, id say hes on his way to building a Stanley cup team if not this year...very soon.

I think you're on to something. Everyone needs to keep their eyes on Tampa

The first year he took over they went to cup finals. The next year, not so much...but he was dealing with contracts that expired and stuff like that. Now that he has people looking to him in the league, and players willing to stick around....i think Tampa is on the verge of a really good season or string of seasons.

Tampa is weak up front. After St Louis and Stamkos, what do they have? Malone? Filppula? Ain't gonna do it. Their D is alright, but still. I think they need a couple more years and for Ben Bishop to play very well. Plus they're in a new division that actually contains a competitive team or two.

On topic now: Kovalchuk is dead to me. If I could afford to see the Olympics in Sochi, I'd go just so I could boo him. It sickened me that I let him win me over after my initial disappointment in the team after hearing that we traded for him, not to mention the disappointment that was that playoff series against PHI and the first half of the 10-11 season.

I agree it took me a while to warm up to kovi then this what a disappointment. I'm gonna miss clarkson even more I love to watch his kind of game. Grinding and still scoring skill I will miss him. I do like our new golie and we will see who will fill the top spot. I like travaris and the islanders just missing a couple pieces then they will be a threat. I think the Blackhawks will be in there for the next couple years lots of talent. Also pens with a new golie will be dangerous.

Clarkson was great, one of the nicest players I ever met. Always willing to stop, sign something, take a pic, etc. However, I wouldn't have wanted him on that Toronto deal. That deal is one of the worst deals I've ever seen. I mean, that one looks worse than the deal we gave Rolston a few years back and at least Rolston had scored 30 goals in his previous 3 seasons.

Tavares is amazing, but the Isles are still a joke. They need some D, bad. Hamonic is one of their only bright spots back there right now. They're gonna miss Streit.

I just want all this ownership stuff to be over. Too much stress thinking about Vanderbeek leaving, whether the new owner will realize Lamoriello is one of the greatest GMs of all time. I'm ready for October to be here.
