Leather Question - Shine

I have a finger leather, and it currently looks like it was covered with a clear coat of paint.

Can someone tell me what causes this? What is it a sign of?

That "shine" usually preceeds a shed/growth period. I'm not sure of all of the reasons for it, but it seems to happen right after transfer (stress) or during periods of growth.

This is not the first time I have seen this, and it always seems bigger shortly after. So that makes sense.
