Ligershark's 57 Rimless

So this is actually my first tale of the tank thread ever. In April/May of 2012 I shot my friend Darren a message and told him I was getting back into the hobby. A 20 gallon high with a pair of clowns and an anemone I said. Some small rubble rock and my old 2x18w current compact fluorescent light. At the end of July of 2012 I saw a deal I could not pass up on. I picked up a 57 rimless with some equipment cleaned it and stored it. I set it up at the end of this past August and with soccer season now over (I coach a local high school team) I have time to resume the build and start a tank thread.

57 Oceanic Illuminata Rimless (3/8" glass and smaller overflow box vs Deep Blue 1/2" and larger overflow box)
-back of tank has 3m vinyl applied to back
Metal Stand spray painted satin nickel
MRC sump with built in refugium
Eheim 1262 return pump
BRS Dual Reactor for media
Tunze osmolator for ato
SWC 160 skimmer (may replace if does not perform well)
36" 6 Bulb Ati Sunpower Non-Dimmable
36" Reefbrite Blue Led's

I have 2 Vortech MP40w Gen 2's currently being serviced by Ecotech and battery back up.
I also have an old tunze 6100 (which I won at the 2007 frag swap!) with magnetic holder and single controller I may utilize.

Undecided on the previous mentioned powerheads at the moment.

Rock is from Tonga area, specifically Eva Island deep water rock (I have many pieces I've been holding onto for past 7 years)

Drains go into the wall through the floor, across 10 feet in basement drop ceiling to a fish filter room.

More to come later this week with more pictures.

Rock work is definitely unique, can't wait to see this come together. One piece of advice would be to put the led bar on the front shining into the tank rather than the back you want the Leds to shine onto your corals to get any affect with that many t5s

We had the same tank and it is a nice one. Very good call with going with your own stand, as the stock one was junk. Our 57g build thread should only be a few pages back in the talk of the tank forum. We ran it with one mp40 and it was fine, two will give you more than enough flow and you will have to turn them down. The tunze would be superfluous at this point.

What are you thinking about stocking?

I have a great deal of light spill, considering going to 4x24 dimmable sunpower with a 24" reefbrite.

The rocks are two boulders. Nothing stacked up or pieced together. Depending on the direction I go with the tank I may eventually put in a shelf piece connecting the two columns or have a ring made to go around the right rock column either around the base or a few inches up. This would be to accommodate more coral.

At the moment I currently have 3 bali picasso clowns and an SA onyx clown. They host an RBTA and GBTA I have along with a banggai cardinal. I wouldnt mind adding another banggai and a dwarf angel or two. (French polynesian coral beauty with the all yellow belly and false shepherds angelfish are some of my favorites). After a few months get rid of the BTA's and get a blue gigantea. I've been following the rc threads on gig's and magnifica's and treating with cipro very closely.

This is if I do not go with lps and just stay with my mushrooms.

Other option is to scrap the gig and angels and go with lps and a few chalices while keeping the bta's for the clowns.

Awesome tank. I really wanna see what the filtration looks like on this bad boy. I vote nem tank, you can really go high end with it and it will look awesome. Been wanting to do it myself for a while.

So I haven't been on the forums too much lately and wanted to update this. My 57 is running but only with 2 clowns currently, this after the following happened. My father and I remodeled a bathroom in the house in November. When we took out the bath tub I noticed a hole in the floor for the tub drain plumbing. I then realized the hole was above the filter and sump room in the basement. Well long story short some water as well as sheet rock and debris got into the sump, so I emptied out the sump and drained the tank cause I wasn't sure what made it up to the tank. No livestock had been in the tank at the time since this was only about a week or two from when I began this thread.

Fast forward to the end of February and here we are. I am ready to move coral to the 57 but I do not want to introduce bryopsis which is on a few frags in my current tank. I started dosing Tech M and today is day 3 in my fight against this devil algae. I am keeping a journal and testing mag daily. Any tips or pointers on the bryopsis situation is appreciated.

You should be able to do a peroxide dip where the algae is and that should take care of it.
