Well my son has had a 10gal basic setup going for about 6 months or so, but he has been bugging me for a bigger tank so he could have a few more fish. So I took out the old nano and gave it to him.
He wants it to be a mixed reef so I hooked him up with a few things I had laying around. He also intends on caring for it himself so I'll be making him a checklist of things to do.
Equipment:
20g high w/ glass hole nano overflow and return
10g sump
Sicce 1.5 return pump
2 koralia 750's
Prizim skimmer
Current nova 4x24" T5
I also have a CPR nano reactor that I modified to run both carbon and gfo at the same time so I may add to the setup also.
The live rock is a mix of reef rocks that he had in the 10g and a few pieces that I picked up today. Sand is Fiji pink. He came up with the scape by himself and frankly I think he did a pretty good job. Corals:
He already has a few zoos that were in his old tank, and since the rock was originally in my old nano there is a small Cali tort that has lived but is completely browned out. I suspect it will make the transition nicely. He also had a couple of chalices, a ricordia, and some acans that will also be making the transition. He has also been scoping out the 90 so I will be supplying him with a few new things from there when he's ready.
Livestock:
Everything is still in the 10g till it can be moved. He currently has a pair of true percs, 1 fire shrimp, 1 sexy shrimp, 1 serpent star, 1 pompom crab, and various snails and hermits. He wants to put more fish but he is not yet sure what he wants.
Anyway he intends on taking and posting pictures often, and I'm hoping that he will also add to the conversation sometimes. So if you see lots of misspelled words and run-on sentences that might just be him typing. I figure it will be good for him to add his thoughts and questions.
Well here is the first pic. Water is still cloudy but he will get some new pics tomorrow.
Good luck Joseph.
