Logistics of receiving a large (120g) tank shipped?

Hi all,

So I'm looking at buying the Nuvo 120 SR, but it is shipped and pretty much dropped at your doorstep as I understand it, and it's hundreds of pounds between the tank and stand. Obviously my husband and I cannot haul this into the elevator and up to our apartment, I'd be lucky to move it an inch. So how does one do such a thing? Would you call a moving company? Will the shipment arrive at a specified time?

This sadly adds more complexity to what I was hoping would be an awesomely simple purchase. Click and buy not possible with something this big! :p

Thanks!!

That is a nice problem to have! The elevator makes things a lot easier. If I were closer I would give you a hand with it are you center city?

Borrow/ or rent a few Dolly's.. Then you can just roll it in the elevator and into your apt..

That's what I did. Home depot sells dollys or you can rent them at u-haul. My apartment in Brooklyn was a 4th floor walk up, now that was an interesting move.

Thanks, guys! Dave, that's really very cool of you! I hadn't even thought of a dolly, really. That solves getting it into the apartment hopefully. I guess once the stand is level there's just the one hurdle of placing the tank. I am a bit out of my element, my largest tank has been 55g do this will double it. I was thinking about acrylic for the weight benefit, but I really like the customizable AIO. Drool.

We will be right in old city on Arch street. Be there next week! Really excited to live in a city. Really.

I don't want to sound negative, but I have 2 questions:

1. Does your apartment complex (and/or your landlord) allow fish tanks that big in the apartment?

2. Are you sure the apartment can hold the weight of a 120g tank filled?

I only ask because I'd hate to see you go through all the hassle of getting it in, then finding out you can't have one that big in the apartment. :(

If you are allowed and you're certain the floor will hold the weight, then the dollies are the best option. You may have to turn the tank on it's side so that it fits in the elevator.

I think a 120 in an apartment t would be fine. As long as its on a load bearing wall. I had my 180g FW tank in my 70yr old apartment on the 3rd floor with no problems. :)

Hi, how do you determine if a wall is lost bearing. It's an old factory converted to lofts. I have a pulley elevator in my apartment as a relic to give you an idea. I was worried about this as well, but most people on rc seemed to think it's ok, I was told that given the LxW it spreads the weight well. There is nothing in my lease or the condo docs about aquaria.

Thx!

Yes, but the bigger question is if the apt allows you to have a tank period. If they don't, how much weight it can hold is irrelevant. Do they have anything about waterbeds? I would still get renters insurance though! Btw, I saw your post op at RC but decided to post here. Using dolly can help but having people is better. Even better when people have glass suction cups that can hold 200 lbs each ;)

While I am not sure when your getting the tank in but if your stuck pm me and I *might* be able to help. I would first suggest looking for people around your apt.
