Mantis shrimp?

Hey everyone,
I'm going to get a mantis shrimp for that 5g+ tank of mine. I talked to guy i know who has a few mantis shrimps. He told me the best way to get one is to ask local fish stores for hitchikers but i though i'd ask if anyone knows any local places that sell / can get one.
I'm looking for a G. smithii, G. viridis, or N. wennerae i figured i would keep a load of food in my refuge for it.
Thanks

If you are going to call Absolutely Fish, ask to talk to Todd. He is 1 of the managers and does the ordering for all the livestock. He is usually busy, but he has always been very helpful and knowledgeable when dealing with me.

Well Absolutely fish is kinda far from me and i'm only a teenager so getting down there is like impossible however i talked to Michael from NYAquatic and he said He could try and order one for me.
But Now i'm thinking of doing a 10g set up which would give him more room and only cost a little more since the tank i have now would need to be redone.

Thanks dude,
Those are some pretty cool mantis shrimps but are a little over priced plus if i remember right the Zebra needs 6"+ DSB because it digs holes and i can't keep a peacock because i don't have a spare 30g acrylic tank lol but thanks!

N. wennerae is quite common in gulf of mexico live rock. I had caught 4 of them (2 reddish, 2 greenish) and gave them to the Brooklyn Aquarium Society back when I lived in NY. They are pretty small and are the hammer type mantis.

I suggest posting a request on the TBS forum in RC. (That's where I received my LR). They ship the LR in water and that tends to keep the mantis in the rock nice and stealthy. The issue though is getting them out (I had to use a squirt of H20 in the burrow).

Btw N. Wenneare had no problems taking out small xanthid crabs and whelks (posing as snails...lol).

Good luck.

I couldn't imagine having to ship one of those, When I bought one some years ago it was put into one of those little plastic boxes they use for reptiles that has vents in the tops, it reached out of there and sliced through 4 bags! Nasty little things for sure!
