Maroon Clown with True Percs

I put a perc from my office tank into our 180g tank that has a pair of maroons in it. They immediately kicked the stuffing out of it so badly that it actually swam into my hand so I could pull it out. It's now in another tank doing well. So my experience is "no" you can't.
This is the most often tried combo of clowns in the hobby and the answer is almost always:
1) No
2) Yes in a very large system. As you see, John's 180 is not large enough (or he doesn't have enough rocks/territory)

Pairing maroons is a little trickier than with other clowns. Other clowns, you just get two and they can grow up and have their dominance issue etc. but one will eventually submit. Maroons don't give up fighting, so this strategy usually ends up with one dead maroon. The usual method is to wait till existing one has reached sexual maturity (usually about 3" or in case of GSM, when the yellow stripe has come in). Introduce, a small clown (1" or so). Some use a breeder's net, others just let them loose. If the existing one doesn't beat the crap out of it within 15 mins or so, you probably got a pair. A little sparring is ok but watch for the submissive dive from the smallish one.
