So, this is a bit odd.
I woke this morning thinking about the tank.

I've been through many tanks over the years and have always preferred nanos 60g or under.
And I've always loved zoas.
I go through cycles of going bigger then downsizing after 1-2 years. But, a decent sized zoa breeder with an Apex and laser defenses and &^%* is as close to a dream tank as ill get.

So, with the 120 going strong for a year with no problems aside from a recent turf algae war, which I'm winning, I had some serious thoughts in the shower and at breakfast.
Thought it might be nice to keep the odd couple of nanos and do a properly funded Apex driven shallow zoa breeder, been loving that idea for a while, but have been committed to the 120 SPSer, which I'm sorta 'meh' about at this point.

I considered if there was ever any divine intervention I'd consider the move, funding a high end zoa growing system with a sell off of current equipment, and when I came into the room fish room this morning after breakfast, the 120 was completely down. (SOMETHING JUST HAPPENED, WILL EXPLAIN IN A MINUTE...) Battery backup pumps were working, but all else gone. No apparent reason why, and some unplugs of flooded sump equipment and a reset of the fusebox solved matters. Weird coincidence that it happened on the morning I was thinking hard on it.

I returned home at lunch today to check on things, tank was fine.

I got home at 7pm, tank was fine.

I sat down to type this note at 8:15ish, tank was fine.

'SOMETHING JUST HAPPENED, WILL EXPLAIN IN A MINUTE...' means that as I was typing that sentence everything powered down again.
Reset breaker and all is well again. Just weird it happened a second time when it did.

Ahem...
So, not being a big fan of divine intervention, but being a huge fan of horror, and especially Lovecraft, either Cthulhu or Dagon are planning my damnation for considering breaking down a tank or good fish gods are telling me to follow my zoa dream tank.

Anyone with a direct line to the Big Guy or possessing a copy of the Neconomicon - thoughts appreciated.

Well since you're a fan of Lovecraft, so am I, it must be Dagon who is interfering.

I always say do the tank that your going to enjoy or else it will eventually get neglected and will become a job.

why dont you sell the 120, grab a 40 gallon lowboy and start your shallow tank and you can still keep most of your hardware?

I would of suggested a 60 gallon shallow deep blue but unfortunately, those tanks are no longer available,

Ok I have to ask. What don’t you like about Zoas. The amazing number of different kind. The incredible number of amazing colors. The generally low cost. The fact that they reproduce readily. Maybe it’s because there so hardy and can take a pretty dirty tank, cheap equipment and lights. Hmmm can’t be that. Perhaps because just about everyone in the club is happy to give you one or two for free.

lol just having fun with you Mark. Not everyone has to like everything. But I am pretty sure you might be in the minority on this one. ;)

Actually, no matter how hard I try they just don't survive for me in my 20 years of reefing.
They look great in large colonies but not small frags to me. The frag would live for a year and never fully extend, well maybe sometimes, and then just die.
I have been on this forum and others to figure it our and nothing so I officially gave up on them longtime back.

Wow. Great reason. Can’t imagine Why. Personally, I have lost one or two. But otherwise. They have been the trouble free coral for me

Don't rub it in....sheesh

I will try again with the new tank and see how it goes.
I will say better success with large Zoa frags or small colonies. Had two that were doing great even traded with Mark C but the dinos ruined that and I did not bother with them again.

Becareful with the fish you keep. Some fish find zoas delicious. I was able to grow zoas in my frag tank no problem. In my display the zoas where always closed. Then I realized it was the blue tang (dory) was eating my zoas

@Sponge You got some nice pics of my tank. You should share some of the zoa pics. I'm a huge acropora guy, always have been. But I love having a mixed reef, acros on top, zoas and shrooms down low and a mix of LPS and gorgonians through out..

Let me put it this way. Had a huge rock covered in GSP cause my wife loved it.
Most of the polyps are gone now. Go figure.

Wish I had that problem. Have a huge rock with the electric green gap, and some clove polyps on another. Both of which my wife loved and brought home as a gift, when she stopped at acc to buy fish food. the young dude at acc who knew me told her dont do it, hes not gonna like it hah. But she thought he was joking. And well I still have it and the 2 of them laugh about it every time where there. They're like the plague, the gift that keeps on giving in my tank lol. I keep cutting them, smushing them and they just keep on going like the Energizer bunny lol.
