Microwaving live rock

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has microwaved there liverock to get rid of pest and stuff, Someone told me to do it to get rid of my aiptasia anemones that are covering my old liverock. So if you've done this please let me know what i need to do, Does it smell?

Thank you,

~Nick

While it would work and I have read about it done previously - I just don't like the idea of something that is from my fish tank going into a piece of equipment I use for cooking (albeit these days just popcorn). How are you explaining this to the rents?

yeah I wouldn't do it... I remember when I dish-washed my honda CB550 carburetors in the dishwasher.... sure they care out clean, but the dishwasher smelled of oil for like 4 months... I can still hear my wife's "opinion" of the whole thing in my head

That's what i though. I figured I'd open it up and get a smell that you don't wanna smell. So what should i do with my 20lb+ of live rock covered in aiptasia anemones? i put it all in a 10gal. (anyone need liverock for their peppermint shrimps?) ;D

I've done it plenty of times. I just finished cooking some right now. No, it doesn't make a mess. No it doesn't stink. The rock itself smells till you run it under cold water. Nothing splashes in the micro. I cook the rocks in a plastic container for 3 minutes.

I've used the oven before but never the microwave. I might just have to try it. Does the microwave kill things dead like the oven. I normally let it cook for 1 hour at 400 degrees in the oven.

You could cover the rock with a paper towel for the splash guard.

i would expect all those fluid-filled aptasia to *pop* in the micro, and splash all over.
Mike said he puts it in a plastic container.
