Mini maxi in a sps tank?

Never liked anemones and I've never kept one but I got a real nice maxi mini at my job. I'm wondering if it's a good idea for a sps dominant reef? I don't want my coral stung. Any thoughts? Would like to buy tonight. Also what's their maximum size?

Stinging should be no problem,
this may sound funny but the size all depends where it came from.
Aussie ones seem to get alittle bigger than the ones from vietnam but they all range in the 3-5" range.

I have two that I just recently received (from my adult son) this past December. As far as I know these are full-grown at maybe a touch over 2 inch diameter. I can tell you that mine have not walked from their original locations they had when I got the rock. This surprised me with one that is partially on the “down” side of the rock and not receiving a bunch of light. I expected this guy to at least move a bit to better light, but it hasn’t moved. So I don’t think these are “walkers,” like some other anemones. I haven’t felt their sting, but I will tell you that they have a “grab” that is pretty strong. When I feed, I just barely touch the food and it becomes stuck like glue to the anemone….stronger than the RBTA I have. They also do not have long tentacles (like RBTA’s) and don’t extend to the amount an RBTA does.

I think bottom line is that you’re still taking a chance. I don’t think anyone could say for sure that it wouldn’t be a potential problem. It boils down to how much of a gambler you are? Just pick a happy spot and hopefully it won’t move.

Thanks guys. I'm not sure of it's origin but I think I may take the chance. Any other input before 9? Lol

I say jump on it. Can't believe you guys got them there.

I turned this.place around. I'm working on a 40b frag tank. All sps and nice lps. If I was full time I could do so much more. Not your typical ****ty petco ;)

I bought it $15 after discount and a coupon. Sweet

Nice Kyle. Awesome deal. Let me know when the frag tank is up I'd love to pass by and check it out and get some stuff.

The maxi minis don't "walk" quite like a BTA or carpet and they really don't expand like the other nems either. They can sting, but not like the others so I would say you are good to go.

Great thanks. It's small about 2 in in diameter when fully open. Hopefully all goes well.

Did you only get the one in? I've been looking for one but don't want to pay the $50 at aquarium center.

I ordered 3. There was one more last night but it was not as nice. Tho none look great because we only have t8 lighting. Mine looked 30x better when I got it home. The one left looks green and red. $30

I picked one up at the Somerville Petco this weekend. Put him in my daughters 12 gal nano. I literally placed it on a rock ant it parked it there. Mine is 3" in diameter. I also have 3 small ones that were hitch hikers on a frag from ocean gallery2. They are a nice green and white variety. If I can get good photos I will. They are quite nice...but stick to your fingers if you touch them!
