Moving to Newark Area

Ill be transferring to the newark rutgers campus next coming fall :(. I dont know the area very well, but plan on getting an apartment/studio with a friend while I finish up. I was wondering what would be a good area to look at thats preferrably safe. Also, if you know of any good rental properties/apartments/studio/anything from 1-2 beds if you could help me and list them here ! Again, ill be with a friend and we were looking for something 1200+ . The cheaper the better, as we dont really plan on living living, just a place to sleep after classes lol. Ill be moving in on August, but if there was a certain location to really look at, ill keep an eye on it.

I dont know what thisll do to the future of my biocube, but for right now im not thinking about it.

Have you considered on-campus housing? If I’m not mistaken, some of the choices are apartments.

The other thought is that Rutgers offers assistance to off-campus housing….you might want to contact them.

Hey I live right by and attend the Rutgers Newark campus, in a brownstone on James St. If you'd like to talk shoot me a PM I can guide where you want to look and where you want to stay away from. Also my landlord may have something open or may know someone else who does. Your 1200 should be sufficient in finding you something decent in the area.

On campus housing is my last resort, because my friend is going to new brunswick. We were looking for an in the middle, but its not looking so good. Im actually a really mean person during the school year because im so focused in school so the idea of living with people I dont know turns me off and I dont know anyone at newark yet. So itll be on the backburner for now.

Hey my area of Newark is a nice area as you've already been to my house also east Newark by Harrison is another great area and like someone said before 1200 is a very affordable budget I'm sure you would find an apt down neck for 8-9 2 bedroom apt easy if I here of an apt I'll let you know

EO isn't the best part of Essex I'd look at Belleville or Bloomfields Brookdale section that are is nice

I go to school at NJIT, and live just off campus on MLK blvd. If you need help with anything let me know. Don't look at East Orange, not the best area.

Bump.
Im reopening this because my move in date has drastically moved to may. Ive looked at a few, colonnade, hallmark house, and the hunt is making me feel more unsafe ad I travel through newark. Ill be on my own I think, and im trying not to exceed 800 but really my main concern is safety and public transportation to rutgers newark. As I write this email im currently touring the university center which is going to be my last option cause itll be a whopping 1400 a month.
