OK, now that I have the pumps for this beast, who want to walk me through setting it up? A quick test run shows real big bubbles, and way too much turbulence in the riser.
What I do is close the air valves entirely and then use the gate valve to set the operating level in the riser. I think for the MR-2R they suggest something like 2 to 4 inches. Once I get that established I open up the air all the way and then back them off 1.5 turns each. I let that run for a few minutes to see where I'm at. If I'm way off one way or the other (either wet skimming or the bubble column is low in the riser) I use the gate valve to get it close. Once it's in the ballpark I use the air valves to make the fine adjustments.
One thing I found was that on the first use and right after each cleaining I get a bunch of really big wet bubbles. That seems to mellow out after a couple of hours and then I get a nice column of small bubbles with a frothy foam up top.
Once you get it close, it make take you a few days of tweaking the air flow to get the amount of skimmate you are looking for.
Thanks Guys. I must have something hooked up wrong since I'm getting large bubbles with the air valves 1/4 turn open. That means they are completely shut, and I turn them 1/4 turn. Something's not right.
I'll bet you see an improvement in the bubbles after it runs for a while. I was really freaked out at first and kept monkeying with the settings. When I finally gave up and just let it wet skim back into the sump it decided to work itself out.
