I picked up 2 new GSM juvi/males for my existing female population while I was at MACNA (thanks for hooking that up, Nagel)! The F in my 120 is a BIG fish and somewhat territorial over her anemones. The fish upstairs is much smaller and other than brushing me away when I get in the tank she's always been a very polite member of society.
Sunday night after a nice drip acclimation, I moved my first fish. Took the itty bitty one and put him in with my smaller clown. She chased him immediately into a cave where he hid well from her. Ok. That didn't go as well as expected but at least he has a safe place from her while they get used to each other.
Next! I had placed the larger of the two with my larger maroon in the 120. I had him hanging in my Lees specimen box. Merlot watched him from a distance but didn't leave her anemone. After moving the first one I returned to let loose this little fishie. To my great surprise Merlot never left her anemone even after he was free in the tank! By last night Merlot was letting him host in her anemone with her (even though there are 3 of them in there). He sleeps in his own anemone though so far.
I don't know what the "mating" ritual is supposed to be like, but they looked to be buddies already. I'm hoping it continues to go so well for them. Merlot used to be the F from a mated pair. Wonder if that makes some sort of difference. The fish upstairs was the M from the mated pair and after a lengthy separation, I'm assuming now to be a F.
As for the fishie upstairs... I'm thinking he didn't fare quite as well. My guess is either very expensive eel food or very expensive anemone food. I haven't seen him since we went to sleep on Sunday :-( .
