My Jawfish is showing unusual behavior...help?

I have a pearly jawfish. I had two but after almost a year of living in the tank - the second suddenly decided that the new T5 fixture was not to his liking and carpet surfed.

Now my second pearly, and the older one at that (almost 2 years) is showing very strange behavior. First it vacated it's old home and went into the new hole (that was the home of the second jawfish). Now today he is in neither burrow and just swimming out in the open. The fish have never chased either jawfish and they boldly go mid-stream into the tank to eat. But the fact that he is a good foot away from his burrow concerns me. He is showing no signs of trying to build a new burrow either.

It's just not normal.

Could it be he/she is sad the partner jumped? I dunno.

Sorry to hear that buddy.

Bob

yeah - i really love my jawfish - they are so much fun. But maybe this is nature's way of telling me not to mix atlantic species fish with pacific species... (i'm joking).

Give it time my BSJ did a similar thing. He had a burrow left side of the tank, left it and just swam about for a day or two, then he settled on the far right of the tank.

Again samething swam around settled now in the middle, now settled far left again.

I think it is probably scoping out some new territory to call home.

I had him for almost two years and he never did this before. He is now in a "depression" in the sandbed on the left side...lying there. Almost neurotic like.

Sorry to hear that yours jumped . Maybe now that there is not another jawfish in the tank it does not feel the need to protect its home and is enjoying the freedom .

Glad things are going well. I have a DSB and was thinking about one of those but I don't think that my big Blue Spotted Goby would like one in the tank. ::)
